Human Writes Music Group offers songwriting workshops as a powerful tool for emotional healing and support for formerly incarcerated individuals. In our seven-day intensive program, participants are introduced to the art of songwriting, focusing on exploring and expressing emotions such as joy, sadness, fear, and anger. Through the process, they learn to channel their experiences into creative expression, transforming their stories into powerful music.

We bring together a diverse group of 3-5 participants, intentionally mixed across racial backgrounds and gang affiliations. This diversity within the group fosters a sense of community and shared experience, encouraging participants to connect with and support one another.

The workshop not only helps individuals to explore and express their emotions but also encourages them to take responsibility for their emotional well-being. As participants begin to see their value within the group, they are empowered to make new, positive choices in their lives, aiding in their healing journey. At its core, this program addresses key needs related to emotional and mental health, antisocial behavior, and relationship challenges, which are crucial for reducing recidivism and supporting reintegration into society. Through songwriting, we provide a pathway for healing trauma and fostering long-term personal growth.
